"I don't go to bed at night thinking about the kids we've fed today. I go to bed crying over those we didn't," said David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP). Man-made conflict continues to drive hunger in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Myanmar and Yemen, where more than half of the country's population is food-insecure. In this month's newsletter, watch yesterday's
60 Minutes segment on WFP's work to prevent a famine in Yemen and how you can help.
IMPACT
As civil war rages in Yemen, the country teeters closer to the brink of famine everyday. WFP is doing everything it can to reach more than seven million hungry people in need with lifesaving support. But WFP cannot do this alone. "If we don't receive the monies that we need in the next few months, 125,000 little girls and boys will die," said WFP Executive Director David Beasley.
By making a gift today, you can help deliver food to vulnerable Yemeni families who have nowhere else to turn.
YEMEN
Last night
60 Minutes spotlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen. The country is on the brink of famine with more than 17 million people — two in three people — not knowing where their next meal is coming from. "Hungry children cry,"
60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley describes. "But there are no tears at the limits of starvation."

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (DRC)
This month, WFP declared a Level 3 hunger emergency in the DRC. Ongoing violence in the province of Kasai has caused 3.2 million people to face hunger, while 1.4 million people have been displaced from their homes. Today, nine out of 10 people in Kasai are food-insecure and don’t know where to find their next meal. WFP is on the ground mobilizing staff and supporting a rapid scale-up of emergency operations within the region.

BANGLADESH
WFP continues to work closely with local partners on the ground to ensure Rohingya refugees are receiving lifesaving food and nutrition in the wake of conflict. Today more than 600,000 people have been registered to receive 55 pounds of rice per household every two weeks for the next six months.
